Why we do what we do!!

I just love the feedback we get from our customers. Had an order come thru today, which required some email to and fro'ing to get it sorted-here's the final email I received from our customer. It lifts our spirits to hear people loving our Mongrel socks, 'cause when you plug away doing the best you can, without feedback it's easy to forget why.
Hi Helen

Free Socks!

For the months of Oct-Nov '07 we are offering all our online customers a chance to try either our Mongrel Tasmanis Possum Socks or cotton rich Dr Socks for free with online purchases over $50 (for a free pair of Dr Socks) or with orders over $100 you'll receive a free pair of Possum Socks to try. Both are a completely different product to our ever popular Pure Wool Mongrel Socks and our Tuff Mongrel Socks, both are a fine sock rather than the thick and woolly nature of our Mongrels. The Dr Socks are a healthy fine cotton rich(95% Cotton/5% Elastine) featuring a loose non-restrictive top with no toe seam to irritate sensitive toes. These socks are great worn in warm weather, when bare feet is not an option. They are light weight and very comfortable. We have sizes from Ladies right thru to XL men's size, with a good range of colours.
Our Possum Socks are also a lighter weight sock, good worn in shoes that won't allow a thick sock comfortably. These socks are incredibly warm for their weight, featuring a top that is generous, so won't grab tight on your ankles. They are made of Possum Fur blended with Merino Superwash Wool (33% of each) with stretch nylon(33%) to give the user decent usability. These socks are machine washable unlike many of our competitors offerings.
All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is type in special notes area of our online order form "free socks" with your size when ordering and you'll received your free gift.

What's warm, woolly and has us flat out like a lizard drinking?

The making of Mongrel Socks, of course! Winter has hit with a vengence, our busiest time of year. This is not a complaint, far from it, we love being busy. We do try to be prepared, with most of our production done in the warmer months, to free up time in busy bits for sales/admin etc. And more importantly the office is alot more inviting than the workshop in the dead of winter. Australia has copped a bad flu season this year and our house hasn't escaped. The leurgy has been wrecking havoc, bouncing back from one person to another for weeks. So as far as work goes we've been flat out busy but all of us lacking in the drive and stamina we usually have. Everything needed doning has been done but it's been a hard slog. Lucky we were organised. You just never know whats around the corner-sales or otherwise. Anyway Spring is nearly upon us, and we're looking forward to those crisp mornings followed by clear, warm'ish days, into cool nights. Tasmania has beautiful Spring weather. Still needing our warm, woolly Mongrel Socks, without that frigid, creeping cold of Tassie's winter.
Roll on Spring!

Rockin' Socks!

In the natural course of the sock business we come across many great people, from all walks of life. Yeah, there are those too, that I'll be happy never to lay eyes on again. Luckily the good far out weight the not so nice. Met one last week who was just a delight. A big lanky guy, carrying a banjo, looking for a pair of socks. Turns out to be a travelling muso (who forgot to pack socks), first time visitor to Tassie. He had a few gigs booked, and was looking for more. We chatted a bit, sold him some woolly socks( it's cold here at the moment) and before he went he gave us a CD of his recordings. YeeHa! By the time I finally got around to listening to it, I found the most fantastic sound coming from the stereo. Sort of bluesy/guttural/toe tapping stuff. It is all original music, and I'm wishing now I got a chance to see him play live. Definately next visit. The guys named was CC Thornely, the CD is titled " The Black Swan's of Tresspass". He rocks( in our socks!) And we wish him all the best.

Yay!

We are jumping for joy, our new range of Possum Socks are finally finished! It seems to have taken forever to get these babies knitted. The wait was worth it. We have added a plain black sock in both ladies and men's sizes, and continued with oatmeal, blood red and blue. We had the yarn processed to our specifications, mixing possum fur with a 19 micron superwash(worsted) wool, making our Possum Wool socks machine washable,(unlike many of our competitors). Who wants to hand wash their socks? Not us! We've come up with a light weight, but incredibly warm sock. One that can be worn with the snuggest of dress shoes, which you can't fit your thick & warm woolly socks in to, not compromising your warmth and comfort. We love them!
