The changing colour of socks.

That making socks can be repetitive...is an understatement. When we finish a run of a colour in all the sizes and different products we make. Even if we began liking the colour mix, by the time we're ready to change colour we are well and truly sick of the sight of it.  Always a pleasure to choose the next colour mix. While we do have a standard colour range in our Pure Wool products, dye lots change and so does the way the final blend appears. It can only be a slight change in the shade, of say one of the seven colours we blend together, to make the socks, arm and leg warmers and head warmers, they can appear very different to the last run. Yay! A changing colour day today - we've been doing the Camo green mix, while it's nice, is is quite dull. We are back on my favourite Blue/Green pure wool socks mix. It's day one of the run and I still love it, give me a week or two and I will have developed an aversion, so much so that I won't even be able to wear that colour for a while, I'll be over it. Funny how the mind works, eh?

Sockarazzi

These Mongrel socks and arm/leg warmers were spotted out and about last weekend and the fabulous wearer's kindly allowed us to take a quick snap. Generally we wouldn't take any identifying shots, always hard to tell who's foot is who's but I have included one this week (with his permission) featuring a smile so infectious that one look would melt the hardest of hearts. His smiling eyes are amazing, I'll be he got away with murder as a child.

Me

These hollow fibre fur wearing animals, from very different environments,  enjoy the fantastic thermal qualities of natural hollow fibre. Now you can too. New Zealands feral Possum ravaged bush appreciates it as well. A sustainable environmentally and economically sound product.

Every time I turn around.

...a week has gone by. Here I am again. Big busy weeks, still finishing in our tax stuff and the usual. I'm really excited, I am sitting here trialing our long await new Possum Socks. First time I've been out of our pure wool Mongrels since I can remember. I love my mongrels but these feel great. Our long awaited ( and still waiting) new supply of possum/merino yarn is due at the end of August, and we are all but sold out of the last run. Not wanting to be unable to meet demand ( in the middle of winter) we have sourced a New Zealand made hi-tech construction Possum/Merino sock for our customers to try.
They are very different to our fine possum sock. With arch support, soft rib top, reinforced and padded sole, toe and heel, light weight and no seam. Wow! These babies have all the bells and whistles. They feel good. I'll be interested how they'll be after a few washes. Will keep you posted.
Our property abounds with wildlife especially birds. We love it although it can be noisy. Yesterday afternoon the birds were particularly noticable. I grabbed the camera thinking I'd get a few up close bird shots, while  drinking a cuppa on the verandah. There were birds every where, but do you think I could get a shot, not a chance. I did manage  to grab this shot, although a nano second earlier the tree had 20 odd western Rosella's in it. It reminds me of my friend Nerines beautiful clothing, click on the link and you'll see why.

Keeping the home fire burning....

Winter is the busiest time of the year for Mongrel Socks - and we love it. One of the other small joys we embrace is the roaring wood fire that chases the winter chills away.

Kicking around in Mongrel Socks

We had a great day at our Salamanca Market stall yesterday. After 15 years of predawn starts, whatever the weather, you would think we'd get a bit tired of the place. But no. Every Saturday we get out of the sweat shop and amongst the masses. I look forward to our regular Gypsy Roll breakfast, and the best coffee @ Tricycle Cafe and catching up with friends and customers. I love the socks we make so it is not hard to sell them. Often someone will wander past, hop up on one foot and show off the Mongrels they are wearing - good for a laugh - telling us we don't need to preach to the converted. Here's a few shots from some good hearted customers who came by to see us yesterday. It is so nice to find people long after thier initial purchase of thier socks still happy with them, because it is one thing to sell a product and an entirely other thing to have a happy customer long after the money has changed hands.
