Bamboo Socks

These babies are the first prototypes of our new Bamboo Sock range. We've impressed even ourselves, with these ones. The feel and silky softness of these socks is just what we had hoped. The wonderful characteristic's Bamboo fibre provides like its high absorbancy and antibacterial properties along with our comfort top and hand linked (seamless) toe seam make this sock a winner in our eye's. The hard won OEKO-TEX and BSCI certificaion ensures that these Mother Natures beauties are free of harmful chemicals and made by off shore workers who are employed under international standards of pay and conditions. NO sweat shop labour for us. It was a big decision to have these socks made oversea's  for us, a lot to consider. The tipping point came after we investigated the raw material production processes. The Bamboo fibre is grown in China so it made sense to have the socks manufactured there too. We love the fact that bamboo when it is under cultivation is so friendly to the planet. Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource. It is grown without pesticides or chemicals, is 100% biodegradable, and is naturally regenerative. Compare this to cotton which uses approximately 25% of the world's fertilizers and insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides for only 10% of the agricultural land mass. Why wouldn't you choose Bamboo? Bamboo fabric is completely biodegradable. Bamboo fabric is made out of Moso bamboo - this is NOT the type of bamboo that pandas eat.
Bamboo generates more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees - if we planted more bamboo more photosynthesis would help to cut the globally rising levels of carbon dioxide.
Its all good!

Mongrel Socks out of hibernation!

Leonard Cohen on stage at his Hobart concert. He's 75 years old and still putting on a fantastic show. We are so lucky.

Dinner at Don Camillo was excellent

The Mongrel Socks garden looks a treat, especially with the Nerine Scott sculpture we we're so lucky to be given. Wrapped around the old log, it looks like it was made for it.

One of the many wicked sweets Don Camillo whipped up for us.
At the home of Mongrel Socks we tend to have our head down and bums up working through winter - our busiest time. Then, I guess like most Tasmanians, when the good weather hits it's time to have some long awaited fun. For the last couple of weeks we've been flat out, lots of social stuff, catching up with friends etc. I thought I'd post a few pictures of........nothing and everything, you'll get the idea - lifes for living.

Possum Socks flying out the door!

Our wonderful new Mongrel Tasmanis Possum Boot Socks have been a big hit! So much so that for the next 2 weeks we are unable to supply orders. They sold out so much quicker than we expected that we've been caught short. They are a beautiful soft luxury sock, we felt our sock buying customers would love and they did. Good thing they'll be back in time for our Xmas sock orders.

Bamboo Socks - the size?

Armed with the experience of many years of making, buying, selling and wearing socks, we are all too aware that choosing the right size pair of socks can be confusing. Nothing worse than getting the wrong size, "too late" she cried! For our new healthy and eco friendly Bamboo Socks range, we are trying to make the size EASY. Time will tell if it works, maybe it's just too much information, we'll soon see. The sock range est. arrival time is mid December 2010. Hope they arrive in time for Xmas. so we can hang them by the chimney with care.
