Another lovely customer of ours

An email we received yesterday.

My name is Ciaran (pronounced ki - ron), I live in Melbourne, and I bought some socks from you just over a week ago at Salamanca Market, when I was staying in Hobart for a few days. I bought 3 pairs of the Bamboo Tasmanis and I told you that I would tell you about these socks. They are FANTASTIC, they are warm, comfortable AND durable, and it's very hard to find socks that are all of those things. What's even better is I can wear them for 3 or 4 days without them getting smelly. I don't know why these socks aren't worth more - I bought them for $8 a pair when they were reduced from $12 a pair. If I'm ever in Tasmania again on a Saturday, I will be going to Salamanca Market to buy some more of those socks. Thanks.

Isn't that nice.

Smelly Feet - step right up.

Better Health Vic has a bit to say about smelly feet. We already knew our wool, cotton, bamboo and possum socks were wonderful to wear, but it's nice to see the word getting out. Here in Mongrel Socks Land we love natural fibre's. Check this independent recommendation of natural fibre worn for health.   www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au

Bamboo Socks

These babies are the first prototypes of our new Bamboo Sock range. We've impressed even ourselves, with these ones. The feel and silky softness of these socks is just what we had hoped. The wonderful characteristic's Bamboo fibre provides like its high absorbancy and antibacterial properties along with our comfort top and hand linked (seamless) toe seam make this sock a winner in our eye's. The hard won OEKO-TEX and BSCI certificaion ensures that these Mother Natures beauties are free of harmful chemicals and made by off shore workers who are employed under international standards of pay and conditions. NO sweat shop labour for us. It was a big decision to have these socks made oversea's  for us, a lot to consider. The tipping point came after we investigated the raw material production processes. The Bamboo fibre is grown in China so it made sense to have the socks manufactured there too. We love the fact that bamboo when it is under cultivation is so friendly to the planet. Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource. It is grown without pesticides or chemicals, is 100% biodegradable, and is naturally regenerative. Compare this to cotton which uses approximately 25% of the world's fertilizers and insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides for only 10% of the agricultural land mass. Why wouldn't you choose Bamboo? Bamboo fabric is completely biodegradable. Bamboo fabric is made out of Moso bamboo - this is NOT the type of bamboo that pandas eat.
Bamboo generates more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees - if we planted more bamboo more photosynthesis would help to cut the globally rising levels of carbon dioxide.
Its all good!

Bamboo Socks - the size?

Armed with the experience of many years of making, buying, selling and wearing socks, we are all too aware that choosing the right size pair of socks can be confusing. Nothing worse than getting the wrong size, "too late" she cried! For our new healthy and eco friendly Bamboo Socks range, we are trying to make the size EASY. Time will tell if it works, maybe it's just too much information, we'll soon see. The sock range est. arrival time is mid December 2010. Hope they arrive in time for Xmas. so we can hang them by the chimney with care.

Bamboo Socks- phew!

Its seems to have taken forever but after much to-ing and fro-ing we have nailed it. Thanks to the help of Baily. A man very good at his job. We have finally settled on a prototype, and in to production they go. Our new Bamboo Socks should arrive by Xmas (fingers crossed xxx). I am so happy with them they are everything we wanted. A thicker terry lined boot sock, with no toe seam and a generous comfort top. A great alternative for the Aussie summer boot wearer. The feel is amazing, soft as silk, so easy to put on.

Bamboo fibre has some great intrinsic qualities. Apart from the eco-friendly nature of the fibre production i.e. it needs no chemicals to grow well, is water miser, and is the fastest growing plant on the planet. It is
Hypoallergenic - good for those of us with sensitive skin
Antibacterial - no more smelly feet
Seam Free - oh so comfortable
Durable - the fibre is incredibly strong
Silky feel - luxurious
Non-restrictive Comfort Top - good for diabetics
Super absorbent - sweat no more
Thermally efficient hollow fibre - warms in the cold, cools in the heat
Thick Full Cushion inner - for comfort

Our first range will be available in 3 colours (more to come) Black, bright Red and Natural.
We have our lovely and talented friend Georgie Fenton from By George Design working on the labels as I write. I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

One of the most exciting things is enviro/social certicfiation this product allows. It is certified to an internationally recognised standard Free of Harmful Chemicals - Oeko Tex and also BSCI accreditation means the work conditions of the staff producing this product is of an acceptable international social standard.
